Millie Bobby Brown Opens Up About Heartbreaking Battle With Hollywood’s Unrealistic Expectations
Millie Bobby Brown, the star of Stranger Things, is no stranger to the harsh spotlight that comes with being in Hollywood from such a young age. Recently, the 21-year-old actress opened up about the bullying and body-shaming remarks she’s faced over the years, revealing how deeply they once affected her.
The Struggles of Growing Up in the Public Eye
In the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Brown expressed her frustration with the way the media dissects her appearance and choices. “The press love to go in on me sometimes,” she said, citing criticism about her growing older and even her changing accent as she adjusts to life in the US. She reflected on the pressure of being a child star, saying, “You did meet me when I was 10, so I understand. Now I’m 21, it’s been 10 years. My face grew.”

Battling Criticism and Trying to Please the Masses
Brown admitted that, in the past, the negative comments would get to her. “I remember trying to change myself to please the masses,” she said. She added that while she’s grown more confident and accepting of herself, she wishes no one, especially young girls in the industry, had to go through such scrutiny. “If I had a genie wish, I would wish that no one ever had to go through that kind of scrutiny.”

A Call for Kindness and Change
In her candid discussion, Brown also touched on the toxic standards and stigmas, particularly in Hollywood. She made it clear that it’s unacceptable to judge others, especially young women, based on their appearance. “The press need to be taught manners again,” she stated, advocating for kindness and understanding as people, especially women, grow and evolve.

A Stand Against Unrealistic Expectations
Millie Bobby Brown has now fully embraced who she is, unapologetically asserting, “I refuse to apologise for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman.”
As the star continues to thrive in her career, with her recent roles in The Electric State and Enola Holmes, Brown is showing the world that she’s not just growing up she’s growing stronger.
